The student will be introduced to the fundamentals of traffic flow theory and models. The student will be able to apply the knowledge of traffic systems to analyse traffic operations (for pedestrians and vehicles) at priority controlled and signalized intersections.

The student will be introduced to Highway Capacity Manual 2010 as an international reference to analyze capacity and quality of service provided by road facilities. The students are able to determine capacity, level of service and other traffic flow parameters (density, average operating speed, volume to capacity ratio, etc) of a multi-lane highway facility under prevailing road, traffic and control conditions.
